New Doctor

I called my doctor’s office today to book an appointment to renew some prescriptions, and found out that my doctor doesn’t work there anymore! I’m upset because I was really happy with him, and felt that he was understanding about my fibromyalgia.

Having an invisible illness can make interaction with medical professionals difficult and upsetting. While fibromyalgia is a real and accepted illness, the fact that it is not easily identifiable or measurable, makes it easy for people to dismiss – even doctors and nurses.

For this reason, it is important to find a doctor that will take the time to listen to your concerns and address them properly. You are not going to get anything positive out of an interaction with a doctor who is skeptical about the reality of your condition.

So I had to book an appointment with a different doctor. I hope that she is as understanding as I need her to be.

In happier news, the online magazine carte blanche that accepted one of my short stories for publication just went live yesterday. You can read it here (it’s really short – you should read it ;)
