Allergy Test

I went this morning to get tested for allergies. I had an appointment in February, but by calling and asking to be put on the waiting list, I got an appointment the next day! I thought this boded well, but the trip ended badly.

Essentially, the problem is that all the skin prick points failed to spark a reaction (they are supposed to get itchy, bumpy and red if you are allergic to something). The issue is that I have definitely had allergic reactions to some of the things they tested me for. They are running some blood-work, but who knows if that will yield a result.

This morning just reminded my how intensely, intensely frustrating and demoralizing (and angering and saddening etc) it can be to get a diagnosis when your symptoms do not fit the norm. I have had problems before because I have atypical reactions to some medicines etc. Also, anyone with fibromyalgia knows very well that nothing shows up on any physical tests that are run.

I’m not about to start eating milk and soy again, because I have witnessed how much I improved after avoiding them. It is just really hard to have a doctor look at you and tell you there is nothing wrong when you know there is. What’s worse is that some doctors then adopt a patronizing attitude that today almost made me cry because I was so frustrated.

All I can do at this point is wait and hope that the blood-work reveals something. Also I’m planning on talking to my regular doctor about what I should do from here.

Another reason this situation is bothering me is that I recently realized that I may have another problem separate from fibromyalgia. This situation made me hesitant to re-embark along the path of diagnosis. Obviously I am still going to, but the whole thing has made for a frustrating day. I’m looking forward to the point when I’ve finished some work I have to do and I can have some yummy food and curl up to watch some good tv.

Side note: I’ve been having some problems with my computer, so if I disappear for awhile, it’s probably due to technological difficulties.
